three months, Priscilla’s uniform and pictures were on display in the lobby of the VA. Hazel Prindle, former WN State Director, donated her uniform and picture to be showcased for the next three months.

PACKERLAND UNIT
Unit # 116 (WI)
– President Julie Bullough, Secretary Dee Clover, and Treasurer Bernice Laurent hosted WAVES National President Barb Turner and 2nd Vice President Ruby Homick at a Sunday breakfast and a tour of the Packers Stadium during their visit to Green Bay in January ‘04. The unit also met with the National officers for a meeting, which Nellie DeBaker, State Director for Wisconsin attended.

OCEAN STATE WAVES
Unit # 118 (RI)
– Thirty members and guests enjoyed the unit holiday party in December. Six members went to visit the 13 ladies residing at the RI State Veterans Home in Bristol, RI., spending time chatting with each of them in their rooms and presenting them with small gifts. The seventh annual Welcome to Spring Tea was held at the Bristol Home on March 13th. According to the news reports, the USS Chafee arrived in Hawaii on 19 December. For any of you who have attended the LITIS (Link Instrument Training Instructors School) in Atlanta, GA, during WWII, they now have a web page which contains information on the history of the school, a photo gallery of photos submitted by LITIS members, a roster of LITIS members (listed under their maiden names), and an e-mail link. The site can be found on the internet at www.litis.org.

LAKE ERIE WAVES
Unit # 128 (OH)
– The unit will celebrate their 14th year on March 25, 2004. Six members of the original crew have entered the Silver Taps List, but they are not forgotten. Thanks to our President and Scuttlebutt Editor, Marion Elfring, the

unit has 36 members. The unit collects pounds of can tabs and delivers them for the Ronald McDonald House. The Valentine Social with six members and a guest had fun. The unit is looking forward to seeing the Florida members back with some sunshine soon!

CALIFORNIA SOUTH COAST WAVES
Unit # 132 (CA)
- In January, members celebrated the unit’s birthday at Leisure World; Laguna Woods. Organist Andrew Roark presented musical program. April 1st luncheon at Las Brisas, Laguna Beach, will be followed by docent tour of newest exhibitions at Laguna Art Museum. Members at La Costa Glen, Carlsbad will host May luncheon meeting. At June’s usual Flag Day Celebration at Dana Point Yacht Club, election and installation of new officers will be held. The unit continues to help the Camp Pendleton Marine families in need.

CASCADE SEAFARERS
Unit # 138 (OR)
- The annual holiday lunch was held at Barbara Wright’s beautifully decorated home where the members assembled a package to send to a woman member of the Oregon National Guard serving in Iraq. Their project for the year 2004 will be to send other packages to Oregonians serving in foreign areas. The unit will continue to meet at various places for lunch throughout the year with an overnight planned for Astoria, Oregon to visit the new Maritime Museum. Barbara Henderson, former President of group and former VP of WAVES National, has moved to Yuma, Arizona. At the February meeting at the Monroe Museum two members celebrated 80th birthdays. That makes most of the member’s octogenarians, but few are sitting in rocking chairs. Most of the World War II gals are still going strong.

BUFFALO AREA WAVES
Unit # 143 (NY)
- Members enjoyed themselves at their annual Christmas party held at the Buffalo, NY C.P.O. Club on the waterfront, on December 13th. Monetary gifts were presented to the VA Hospital in Buffalo for the purchase of toiletries, socks, etc. A monetary gift was

also presented to the Buffalo Area Salvation Army Red Kettle Drive for area needy families. The unit had the privilege of having the son of a member, Bev Kurneta, come and speak to the unit. Dave is a Navy Hospital Corpsman, serves with a Marine detachment, and recently returned from Iraq. He brought pictures, coins, and some great stories of their involvement of local life, rebuilding of schools, and voter registration. The unit is now planning for some summer and recruitment trips.

TIDEWATER TIDAL WAVES
Unit # 152 (VA)
– The unit’s second anniversary was celebrated on January 11th at Freemason Abbey in Norfolk, a charming restaurant that had once been a church. A few diners were surprised when the unit enthusiastically sang “WAVES of the Navy” to mark the celebration. Agift of $200 was donated to the St. Mary’s Children’s Home to purchase Christmas gifts for the children. In February, female veterans at Hampton VA Hospital were visited and all - with the promise of return visits, enjoyed the swapping of sea stories.

FOX CITIES UNIT
Unit # l53 (WI)
- A new unit of WN was chartered on January 31, 2004. We are Fox Cities Unit # l53. The formal ceremony included seven speakers: Mayor of Appleton, the County Executive of Outagamie County, two State Representatives, WN President Barb Turner, WN 2nd VP Ruby Homick, and Nellie P. DeBaker, founder of the Unit. Barb installed officers and Ruby presented the Charter. Eighteen charter members make up the unit. Dignitaries from several veterans groups also welcomed the All Women Group onboard in the Fox Valley. Nellie P. DeBaker is also Wisconsin State Director. The unit is looking forward to being part of WAVES National and is looking forward to helping their fellow mankind.
