| I
had the pleasure of attending the Region
XII Conference in Clearwater, FL in May, the Region VII Conference in Frankenmuth, MI and the Region XI Conference in Memphis, TN in June. I take this opportunity to thank each and every member who worked tirelessly on these conferences. The purpose of the regional and state conferences is to provide WN information to our members who were not able to attend the convention, to share ideas about various issues and to bring up any issues to be discussed during the mid-term meeting of the board of directors. The board of directors will meet this month to discuss bylaws changes and several other issues that were brought up at the regional conferences. The action items that come out of the mid-term meeting will be addressed in Philadelphia at the convention. During the regional conferences that I attended I heard more than one member remark that “they are getting too old” to hold office, or that “there is too much paperwork” involved in being an officer. I know that many of our units have the same members taking office over and over again. Thank you, ladies for continuing to take the lead. What is the answer? The answer is recruiting! I hope that each unit is recruiting at least one new member each month, as I challenged in the June White Caps. You must work for these new members. They won’t come to you if they don’t know who you are. So get the word out now! Please note the information on the membership contest by Sharon Woods in this issue. There is also an article about gathering photo’s for Convention 2004 by Denise Duke. Please make sure that you read these articles and make a copy. You may reprint these articles in your unit newsletter. I apologize to each and every member for the huge error in the June WC on the unit listing. It has been corrected and is reprinted in this issue. I apologize to Sandy Storherr for not thanking the members who had her in their prayers during her time in the hospital. She sent me a rather lengthy |
article
to put in the WC, but I summarize here. Sandy received over 150 cards and
e-mail from members and is very thankful for all of our thoughts and continued
prayers. (Sandy is the President of the Eastern Shore Silver Salts, Unit
147 Virginia)
I was recently given a NAS Pasco, Washington base newspaper dated October 1, 1944. There is a photo and article on the WAVES Choir along with several other articles on WAVES who were stationed there. What a find! Were you stationed at NAS Pasco at that time? I’d like to hear from you. The WAVES National web site web master, Bob Maillette, is working on updating our web site. Bob is working on a Calendar of Events page now and it will probably be available by the time you receive this White Caps. Please check it out. (web site address on page 2) As of June 19th we have 5,344 paid WN members. 748 past WN members have not renewed their dues since 2001! We have 684 life members. It’s not too early to start thinking about paying your dues for 2004. When you meet again in the fall (some units don’t meet during the summer) please pay your 2004 dues! Dues are only $10 now and will go up to $15 after the 2004 convention. I take this opportunity to thank Marion Gray (unit 41 Maine) and her scholarship committee for selecting the winning essay for the 2003 WN Scholarship. Well done! I am looking for a WN Scholarship Committee Chairman for next year. Thank
you for your continued support.
