Sharon Woods It is membership contest time and will run from September 2003 through June 2004. The contest will be on an individual (not unit) recruiting basis and you will earn points as follows: 1 point
for WWII - era members.
Applications are available from your Unit President or Unit Treasurer and are available in the procedures manual. The new members need not join a local unit if they don’t want too - would be nice, - but just as long as they join WN is what’s important. Include your name, name of recruit and other information called for, especially their time of service, then submit the application, along with dues, and a copy of their proof of service (DD214, discharge certificate, copy of current contract) to Executive Secretary/Assistant Treasurer Gloria Galati. Our goal is to recruit younger members to help continue our wonderful organization, so the younger they are and the more recently they have served in the military, the more points you will earn. (You earn points for when the recruit entered the service. Example: new member entered service in 1969 (Vietnam era) and got out in 1981 you would earn 3 points). Prizes will be awarded to the top four recruiters, with $100.00 for first place, $75.00 for second place, $50.00 for third place, and $25.00 for fourth place. All award winners will receive a certificate of appreciation for a job well done. So,
ladies, let’s get out there and recruit new members. Possible ways to recruit
new members would be to post flyers at your local stores, churches, VA
Hospital, and of course, newspapers. Whatever it takes to let people know
who we are! We have a great organization, and as for myself, I have met
some really great people who I call friends. Until next time, I am signing
off.

Ruby Raines Homick First of all I want to thank all of the Presidents who have sent in the Officers Transmittal and Unit President Status Reports. To those Presidents who have not done so, please mail them in as soon as possible. We need to keep our records up to date. One or two have used the copy that is in their Procedures Manual. I will be sending them a new copy, but in the future please make copies of the forms that are in the Manual. It will make both of our lives easier. Thanks. The reports tell us a lot about what your units are doing. And may I say that you all doing a great job. Please keep looking for new members and keep trying to find ladies that might be interested in starting new units. Keep looking, they are out there. RECORDING
SECRETARY The
newsletters are starting to come in. I was beginning to think that no one
wanted to join in on the fun. The Journalism teacher whose advanced class
will be judging the papers, took home the issues I have received so far.
She is really quite excited at being asked to have her class participate.
They have already had one year of Journalism. This coming year, they will
be publishing the school paper, which looks quite professional.

I pass them on to the judges.
Thank you for your participation.
My apologies for not getting my article to the Editor in time for the June issue. Attention all Unit Treasurers: one of the many requirements for the IRS is the Unit Annual Financial Report which is due to me no later than September 1, 2003. Hats off to Alamo Unit 103 and Blue Mountain Unit 12 for being the first to send their reports! I hope everyone else follows. The form is located in the WN Procedures Manual and my address is located on page 2. Looking forward to a full mail box! I attended the Region VIII Conference at the beautiful Samoset Resort in Rockport, ME May 14-18th . It was a great conference. Special thanks to Irene, Jo and Marge who gave me a ride and let me bunk with them and my sincere thanks to all who worked to put it together. We all had a great time and your speakers were excellent! Donations towards the Stained Glass Window Fund continue to come in. The following donations have been received since the April issue of White Caps: Nelda Ashbaker, Beatrice Harrington, Orange Blossom Unit # 69, YNC Helen Sadowski, USN, Ret., Toni Stewart, and Gertrude Woolsey made a donation honoring Hazel Aitkin. Donations are still needed to fund the latest window (shadowbox) which will be dedicated at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, VA in July. A generous donation in memory of Daisy Jones – charter member of Unit #150 Mississippi Mates was received for the Scholarship Fund from her shipmates in Unit # 150. The Assistant Treasurer, Gloria Galati mailed over 1,000 postcards to our membership who she had not received 2003 dues. I would like the Unit Treasurer’s to start early in reminding the members that dues are due January 1st and membership shall be forfeited if dues are not received by April 1st. Unit Treasurers please forward dues as you receive them, this will keep the process flowing smoothly, and ensure that all members who have paid their dues in a timely fashion will continue receiving their White Caps. Hopefully it will cut down |
